General Information

The Center for Employee Education - Technology Training offers all levels of training in computer software applications to Texas A&M University System employees. We offer open enrollment classes for Texas A&M employees, special classes for departments, and one-on-one training. Classes typically contain 3-9 hours of instruction, and our regularly scheduled classes carry Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits.

Customers of the Center for Employee Education - Technology Training take advantage of instructor-provided software support in addition to support through Help Desk Central at (979) 845-8300. Please contact us for information about currently available courses or to let us know what classes you'd like us to offer.

How to Register

Courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and participation is limited to ensure a quality learning environment.

  • Find the class that you want on the schedule page and click the register link. You will need to log on with your NetID and password.
  • Telephone Registration is available by calling (979) 845-8430.

Remember to have your NetID/Password, UIN, email address, payment information and mailstop during registration. If you don't already know your UIN, you can find it printed on your University ID card. If you have not set up your NetID, visit the Aggie Computing Gateway and follow the "Activate NetID" link.

Cancellations

  • If you are unable to attend a scheduled class, contact the Center for Employee Education - Technology Training at least two working days before the scheduled class to avoid being charged.
  • You can also cancel classes by logging into your schedule on the My Training page and clicking the "drop class" button.
  • Classes cancelled less than two working days prior will be assessed a $35 late cancellation fee!
  • The price of the class will be billed if cancellation is made after the scheduled class time or if students do not show up for class.

Payment

FAMIS Account Numbers

We accept 8 to 13 digit FAMIS account numbers as payment for Technology Training courses. FAMIS account numbers consist of a two digit system part number, a six digit FAMIS number and then you may also have a five digit support or project number (_ _ - _ _ _ _ _ _ - _ _ _ _ _). The FAMIS account numbers that you have used before will be listed on the payment method page whenever you sign up.

If you have not taken courses from the Center for Employee Education - Technology Training or your FAMIS account number does not show up, please contact our registration staff at (979) 845-8430 or write talk-training@tamu.edu.

Free Faculty Training

The Center for Employee Education - Technology Training offers computer classes at no charge for faculty members, teaching assistants and staff who are using technology in their instruction of TAMU academic courses.

To take Technology Training courses as part of this program, you must submit the following information that will be requested during the registration process:

  • Academic Course Code (i.e. - MATH141, AGED440) for at least one course that you teach or develop
  • The instructor for the course (if you are assisting a faculty member)
  • Academic Course Semester (Spring05)
  • Plans for using technology in your instruction. ("I need to use PowerPoint to give presentations to my classes.")

Personal Check

You may also pay with a personal check (payable to TAMU). Please mail your checks to us at least three working days prior to the class start date, or drop them off with our registration staff.

Prerequisites

Some courses build on the skills gained from another course or are based on previous experience.

  • Prerequisites are listed for each course.
  • Students should check prerequisites before registering for class.
  • If you are not sure what courses you've taken with us, you can either view your records here, or check with registration personnel.
  • Some courses have prerequisites that are listed as "strongly recommended." This means that instructors of these courses will assume that if you are enrolled in the course, you have taken the recommended prerequisite or have a strong grasp of the material.

Class Location

The Center for Employee Education - Technology Training is on the second floor of the General Services Complex.

Parking

  • Employees presenting a University Business placard along with their parking permit may park in lot 88, which is adjacent to the General Services Complex, at no charge.
  • Visitor parking is available around campus. From most parking areas you may be able to take a bus to reach the General Services Complex. Check bus routes and schedules here http://transport.tamu.edu/transit/oncampus.aspx
  • Note that university students often fill visitor parking, so the sooner you get to the parking area, the easier it will be to get a spot.
  • Visit the Transportation Services Web Site for parking maps, regulations, and up-to-date traffic news.

Accessibility

  • Handicapped parking is available in Parking Area 88.
  • Elevators are available.
  • In the elevator go to floor 2 to find the Center for Employee Education - Technology Training.
  • Accessible restrooms are available on all floors.
