Course Description:

EMPLOYEE & ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: This workshop provides foundational information on supervisory best practices to help new supervisors get off to a good start and to serve as a refresher for current supervisors. Emphasis is placed on the critical relationship between supervisor and employee, which impacts employee behavior, performance, motivation, and productivity. Participants are introduced to a core set of interaction principles that, when practiced consistently, enables supervisors to interact with employees in a manner that addresses their personal needs (to be respected, understood, and involved) while simultaneously holding them accountable for meeting performance and behavioral expectations. In addition, participants identify learning resources for further supervisory skill development.

Objectives

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and embrace the supervisory role
  • Identify characteristics of various leadership styles in order to be able to adapt the supervisor’s style to meet situational needs
  • Manage performance year round through the use of the PCER Model (Plan, Coach, Evaluate, Reward)
  • Use essential interaction skills to build and maintain effective relationships with employees
